paper Lignin is the organic material that gives old book pages their yellowish tone. In the book and paper industry, purified white paper isn’t always used — cheaper paper with more lignin means it naturally yellows over time.
Which is kind of cool, actually! :D
But it makes me wonder: what’s the real cost of recycling old books? The best option would be to find creative ways to reuse them. Yet from my second-hand store experience in Sweden, I’d say the reality is that most end up getting recycled in bulk.
So wouldn’t it be fun to have a DIY “old book paper painting kit” to teach people about upcycling?
- I need to list brands doing that
- I need to do math of recycling, upcyling and packaging carbon footprint.
- carbon footprint of glued them together!
- We need to have a fairly good price to sell them. And find a environmentalist charity to share some income
- I need to find a printing service which can print any kind of colorful image to sticked together papers
- Can we print any art on them? Probably no! We should have DIY kit instead.
